Navratri is considered as one of the most important festive time of Hindu religion. People keep fast and worship Maa Durga for the nine long days. Shardiya or Sharad Navratri 2024 date is 3rd October and Navmi is on 11th October and Vijaya Dashmi or Dussehra is on 12th October.

Every year Sharad Navratri is celebrated but the date is different every year. This year Navratri will start from 3rd October and end of Dussehra, i.e. 11th October. There are many festivities that take place during the nine days of Navratri.

Celebration of Navrati in India

People across India celebrate these nine days in different ways.

In Kolkata people celebrate Durga Puja and you can see different decorated pandals with Maa Durga’s beautiful statue.

People in Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi, celebrate the nine days by performing Dandiya dance and Garba night.

Women also keep fast for 9 long days and worship Maa Durga, some women keep fast on the first and last day of Navratri and make prasad, either on Ashtami or Navmi.

People worship Maa Durga in their households by placing a statue or an idol of Maa Durga on a Red chowki.

They then pour gangajal around the chowki to make it more pure and then offer flowers and mango leaves as well.

Most of the people in North India also keep a coconut in their temple with a red moli tread tied around it on the first day of Navratri.

They also keep all the solah sringaar things like bangles, bindi, sindoor, mehendi, etc, and decorate Maa Durga.

They then light the diyas, worship and offer prayers to the supreme Goddess Maa Durga
