Ponniyin Selvan has been directed by Mani Ratnam. This is the third time that Mani Ratnam and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have worked together.
Besides Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead role, the others are Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi. AR Rahman has composed the music of the film.
The film was released on 30th September in five languages globally, in addition to being released in Imax. It is said to have had a great opening in UK, Singapore and Malaysia.
Heading towards being a big hit, the movie managed to collected 230 crore rupees at the box office in three days globally. Made with a very huge budget, the film may start crossing a profit soon if it continues to do well at the box office.
The movie is a part of a series and this is just the first part. Ponniyin Selvan is an adaptation of novelist Kalki Krishnamurthy’s five-part book, also called Ponniyin Selvan.
